It's been 500 years...

...since Ferdinand Magellan led the first expedition that circumnavigated the earth. Using nothing but the wind and human ingenuity, he and his crew covered vast distances. That spirit of courage and ingenuity have inspired this expedition to re-trace the route of the first circumnavigation. 

 

This voyage won't be to find a new trade route for spices, but will be to demonstrate that harmony with nature can be restored by covering that same distance while not using any fossil fuels.

 

Too often ships - even sailing ships - motor for hours or even days at a time, burning fossil fuel in the process. This expedition with be entirely fossil fuel free.

Sponsored by the Spanish King, Magellan set out from Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Spain heading southwest toward Cape Verde. After a short stop, the fleet crossed the Atlantic headed toward Cape St. Augustine in Brazil, ultimately anchoring near present day...

We are today, more than ever, dependent on fossil fuels for virtually all transportation. But it doesn't have to be that way. By working with nature we intend to circumnavigate the globe without using a drop of fossil fuel. 

Magellan set sail from Spain on September 20, 1519 on a mission to find a western route to the spice islands of southeast asia. He was considered a traitor by his native Portugal for accepting a commission from the Spanish king...
